that afflict our two lower natures, even when they appear as hindrances to our turning toward God. Let us commend them to Him, no matter whether they are sensual or rational concerns. Let us gladly leave them behind. Now we should rise with all our might into our highest nature. This is what Abraham did when he left his servant and his ass at the foot of the mountain and went up alone with his son. In the same manner you should leave the ass, your animal man [and what an ass he is!] behind and do
